Phlur Raises $7 Million, Acquires Manufacturing Operation

Clean fragrance business Phlur has closed a funding round, acquired a manufacturer and released its latest fragrance. The $7 million funding round was led by Symrise, with existing investor North Coast Ventures and Belcorp. At the same time, Phlur also acquired Texas Beauty Labs, an independent manufacturer of beauty products founded by Mary Berry, chief executive officer of Goodkind Co., in 2008. That deal should allow the company to expand. Phlur said the purchase will also help it support “new clean independent beauty brands” in a statement. “When I first met Mary and heard her story, I knew that our shared vision of creating beauty products with integrity and heart could lead to some amazing opportunities.…Our combined objective: to further accelerate the adoption of clean products by mainstream consumers,” Eric Korman, cofounder and ceo of Phlur, said in a statement. Phlur and Goodkind had previously partnered to launch body care for Phlur. Later, the companies partnered again to launch Explore Naturals, a natural deodorant line sold on Amazon. “We launched the brand on Amazon in under three months, and then in the next three months we achieved annualized revenue of over $1 million,” Berry said in a statement.
