Shiseido Signs Tory Burch Beauty License

Shiseido has signed a beauty deal with Tory Burch. Under the terms of the agreement, Shiseido will have the worldwide license to develop, market and distribute Tory Burch beauty products effective Jan. 1. The license has been held by the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc. since 2011. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Right now, Tory Burch’s beauty assortment consists of three fragrances — Tory Burch, Love Relentlessly and Nuit Azur. Under Shiseido, the plan is for Burch’s beauty purview to expand. Beyond growing the fragrance business, Shiseido plans to explore the possibility of launching other beauty categories. The business is looking to “create opportunities for collaboration across Shiseido Group and the company’s Centers of Excellence in fragrance, makeup, skin care and digital, as well as the company’s Technology Acceleration Hub,” Shiseido said in a statement. The Tory Burch beauty business will be run out of New York, managed by Shiseido Americas. Masahiko Uotani, president and chief executive officer of Shiseido, noted that the Tory Burch brand has a clear identity and is “exactly the type of innovative partner we seek to enhance our portfolio as we continue to find new ways of cultivating consumer engagement and bringing value to our business and to society.”
