Chanel Au Fil de L’Eau (358) Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow ($65.00 for 0.07 oz.) is a new, limited edition quad featuring an iridescent pink, soft pink-peach, mid-tone gray, and darker gray; all four shades had some shimmer ranging from satin to soft metallic. They had good color coverage but often needed a second layer to get to full opacity (alternatively, one could use a primer or apply with a dampened brush). They were easy to work with and lasted around eight hours on average.

Au Fil de L’Eau #1 is a pale, white gold base with peach-to-pink shimmer. It had a semi-opaque base with a stronger presence from the shimmer/shine that gave it a slight illusion of greater opacity when applied. The texture was smooth to the touch, firm but not too dense or thick, and picked up well with a brush. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Au Fil de L'Eau #2

Au Fil de L’Eau #2 is a very light, pink-peach with subtle, warm undertones and a satin sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied evenly to bare skin but seemed to look a bit more matte when applied so it had a more faded appearance. It also applied a lot lighter than it appeared, so it didn’t have as much depth applied as it did in the compact. The color started to show signs of fading after seven and a half hours of wear.

Au Fil de L’Eau #3 is a medium-dark gray with fine, bluish-silver pearl that gave it a soft sheen. It had good color coverage and seemed to look a bit smoother and more opaque when applied to my lid compared to the swatch. The texture was smooth to the touch, lightly creamy and more emollient than other shades in the palette, but it wasn’t overly emollient so it adhered evenly. It stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Au Fil de L’Eau #4 is a deep, bluish-gray with cool undertones and a satin sheen. The color coverage was slightly shy of full opacity in a single layer but could be built up to full coverage with a second layer or if used with a dampened brush. The eyeshadow had a soft, blendable texture that wasn’t too firmly nor too softly pressed in the pan, so powderiness wasn’t present and it was easy to control and to apply with precision. It lasted well for eight hours before fading a bit.
