Huda Beauty Lilac Pastel Obsessions Palette Review & Swatches

Lilac

Huda Beauty Lilac Pastel Obsessions Palette ($29.00 for 0.21 oz.) is one of those products that swatches well enough but surprises you–not in a good way–during application. The mattes were moderately powdery with some fallout, but the biggest struggle was using #9, which blended away and lifted up products underneath.

Some of the darker shimmers were thicker with larger sparkle, which I found pushed the matte eyeshadows around and left bald patches behind. It was, much like the Mint palette, not a particularly cohesive, versatile palette, and for someone who is a big fan of sparkling, shiny eyeshadows, might work sufficiently if you use primer, a dampened brush/fingertips (or prefer a sheerer look), and only want to use one or two shades in a look.

Lilac #1

Lilac #1 is a brighter, medium-dark lavender with warm, pink undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation, but the texture was moderately powdery and prone to fallout and appeared to go on lighter once applied and blended out than it appeared in the pan/swatched. It blended out decently along the edges, but it proved to be harder to keep blended (without becoming patchy) when I tried blending it into #7 and #9. There were signs of fading after eight hours of wear.

Ingredients

Mica, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Phenoxyethanol, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin. [+/-Iron Oxides (Ci 77491), Iron Oxides (Ci 77492), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Carmine (Ci 75470), Red 40 Lake (Ci 16035), Ultramarines (Ci 77007), Manganese Violet (Ci 77742)].

Lilac #2

Lilac #2 is a medium purple with cooler undertones and a sparkling sheen. It had semi-sheer color coverage in a single layer, which was only slightly more pigmented when applied with a fingertip or a dampened brush, though the latter was the best way to get more even coverage that resembled the pan color. The texture seemed a little drier where the texture of the sparkle was more noticeable on the lid, which made it prone to pushing and blending off the matte eyeshadows near it. This shade stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly and had a bit of fallout over time.

Ingredients

Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Tin Oxide, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin [+/-Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Carmine (Ci 75470), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491)].

Lilac #3

Lilac #3 is a light-medium lavender with cool undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was buildable to nearly opaque coverage; it was best applied with a fingertip or a dampened brush with the latter tool yielding near-opaque coverage without fallout. The texture was soft, dense without being thick, and blended out without fallout. It wore well for eight hours before creasing faintly.

Ingredients

Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Tin Oxide, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin [+/-Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Carmine (Ci 75470), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491)].

Lilac #4

Lilac #4 is a medium-dark, pink-leaning coral with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had opaque pigmentation with a smooth, lightly emollient texture that was on the thinner side. The thinness made it harder to pick up with a typical brush; I found flatter, natural-hair bristles were best as synthetic ones pushed the product around (without picking it up evenly) in the pan. The product could have applied more evenly to my lid. It lasted well for eight hours before creasing noticeably.

Ingredients

Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Tin Oxide, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin [+/-Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Carmine (Ci 75470), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491)].

Lilac #5

Lilac #5 is a light-medium coral with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color coverage in a single layer, but the powdery texture made it hard to keep it that way as a lot of the product dusted off my skin (even over primer), which resulted in more semi-opaque, faded coverage that wasn’t as even as it could have been. The color showed signs of fading after seven and a half hours of wear.

Ingredients

Mica, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Phenoxyethanol, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhex.

Lilac #6

Lilac #6 is a light-medium lavender with subtle, warm undertones and cooler-toned sparkle. The texture was lightly emollient, almost like a cream-powder, and I could see it move slightly in the powder as a cream product would. It had a thinner consistency applied, though, which worked best with a fingertip for application. A dampened brush pushed the product around on my lid too much and created a patchier effect, whereas a dry brush resulted in moderate fallout. It had good color coverage that wore nicely for eight hours before creasing noticeably.

Ingredients

Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Tin Oxide, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Carmine (Ci 75470).

Lilac #7

Lilac #7 is a light lavender with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer, while the consistency was moderately powdery with a tendency to sheer out when applied to my skin (even over primer). There was also light fallout, and some of the product would dust away if I tried to blend it into another shade. There were signs of fading after seven hours of wear.

Ingredients

Mica, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Carmine (Ci 75470), Ultramarines (Ci 77007).

Lilac #8

Lilac #8 is a light-medium peach with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color coverage in one layer, but the consistency was quite moderately, which led to sheerer coverage once I tried to diffuse and blend out the edges. There was a fair amount of fallout during the initial application as product came off my lid as I blended it out. It lasted for seven hours before fading visibly.

Ingredients

Mica, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Phenoxyethanol, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhex.

Lilac #9

Lilac #9 is a light purple with cooler undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was opaque in a single layer, so it seemed quite promising, and while it was somewhat powdery, it did not seem as powdery as other shades in the palette. Unfortunately, actual application showed this shade for what it was; it was very dusty and drier, so the product blended away and led to patchy, bald spots on my skin to the point where I couldn’t even detect where I applied it. The color just seemed to disintegrate during application! The color wore well for six hours from what little I could see of it (to begin with).

Ingredients

Mica, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Phenoxyethanol, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin.
