Huda Beauty Mint Pastel Obsessions Palette Review & Swatches

Mint

Huda Beauty Mint Pastel Obsessions Palette ($29.00 for 0.21 oz.) seemed to work better as individual shades than together, as the shimmers were creamier but often a little sheerer, while the matte shades were pigmented but moderately powdery. Visually, the palette was hard to envision because the shimmers often applied differently than they appeared, too.

The mattes darkened slightly when applied, though not terribly, and they blended out decently along the edges but I had issues with the deepest matte (#9) getting erased as I tried to apply, build, and/or blend it out in my crease. Some of the shimmers were harder to apply using brushes, so fingertips worked best and/or using a dampened brush, though I had some issues with #8 looking patchy no matter how I applied it.

I can see some really loving the dimension, sparkle, and shine of the shimmers, and as pretty as they are, I felt like a slightly more loosely-pressed, denser (but not thicker) formula would have helped intensify the pigment and improved the smoothness of the shades on the lid.

If you’re someone who would use this paired with a lot of other palettes you own and tend to favor 1-2 shade looks or are looking for transforming shimmers for all-over the lid application, maybe it could work out. It’s one of those rare products where I could see someone with certain preferences/techniques not caring about some of the performance issues, but I don’t think it delivers on the pigmentation (and the new Pastel palettes are supposed to be “highly pigmented” still), application, or usability as other Huda palettes.

Mint #1

Mint #1 is a muted, light-medium bluish-aqua with neutral undertones and a matte finish. It seemed cooler-toned in the pan, but applied, it seemed to take on a subtle, green cast, especially after applied and blended out as it darkened a bit on my skin. It had a moderately powdery texture that was prone to sheering out, so it had more semi-opaque coverage at best that did not build up well (even over primer). It wore well for seven hours before fading visibly.

Ingredients

Mica, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin [+/-Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140), Blue 1 Lake (Ci 42090), Iron Oxides(Ci 77499, Ci 77492, Ci 77491), Chromium Oxide Greens (Ci 77288), Red 40 Lake (Ci 16035)].

Mint #2

Mint #2 has a pale, yellowy-green base with flecks of pink, green, and gold sparkle that shifted to a brighter, chartreuse sheen at certain angles. The way it appeared in the pan is how it appears when shifted but straight-on, it can appear much lighter and less green. The texture was smooth, creamy but thin and harder to pick up with a brush.

Fingertips worked decently for getting a smoother application, but I found my fingertip absorbed a lot of product, too, so it didn’t transfer as easily off my fingertip and onto my lid. A dampened brush seemed to give greater opacity but ensured a smoother lay down of product. It had semi-opaque coverage that lasted well for eight hours before creasing.

Ingredients

Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tin Oxide, Ethylhexylglycerin [+/Iron Oxides (Ci 77492), Chromium Oxide Greens (Ci 77288), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891)].

Mint #3

Mint #3 is a light, mint green with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation in a single layer, but the moderately powdery consistency made it hard to maintain this level of coverage, so I’d definitely recommend wearing it with a primer, which helped it from sheering out completely.

There was some fallout during application, which made it a shade that worked better applied earlier on rather than later on as the fallout could cause darker shades to look ashy. It stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Ingredients

Mica, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin [+/-Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140), Blue 1 Lake (Ci 42090), Iron Oxides(Ci 77499, Ci 77492, Ci 77491), Chromium Oxide Greens (Ci 77288), Red 40 Lake (Ci 16035)].

Mint #4

Mint #4 is a soft, peachy brown with moderate, warm undertones and a sparkling, shiny finish that had an iridescent blue shift. It had opaque pigmentation with a soft, lightly creamy consistency texture that was a little thin but seemed more yielding and emollient compared to other shades in the palette, so it picked up more readily with a brush and had better application and coverage. It wore nicely for eight hours before creasing slightly.

Ingredients

Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Mica, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tin Oxide, Ethylhexylglycerin, Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77499), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891)].

Mint #5

Mint #5 is a light-medium, pink-peach with flecks of gold, pink, and green sparkle that gave it a shiny, sparkling finish that shifted more golden at times. The texture was smooth, lightly emollient but thinner, almost like a tightly-packed cream eyeshadow than a true powder one. It had a more translucent base color to my eye, so a lot of the “color” came from the shimmer and sparkle in it.

The product applied best with a dampened brush or fingertip, though a fingertip didn’t transfer as much product as a decent amount stuck to my fingertip. It had medium, buildable coverage–up to semi-opaque with two to three layers; it didn’t go on as smoothly initially when used over a primer. This shade lasted well for eight hours on me before showing signs of wear.

Ingredients

Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Mica, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tin Oxide, Ethylhexylglycerin, Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77499), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891)].

Mint #6

Mint #6 is a light, peachy brown with warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation at best, which did not build up well (regardless of with or without primer, dry, wet, or with fingertips). The texture felt lightly creamy to the touch but was firmly-packed into the pan and was on the thinner side. I could see it working, functionally, as an all-over lid shade but was hard to manipulate in smaller areas otherwise. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Ingredients

Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tin Oxide, Ethylhexylglycerin [+/Iron Oxides (Ci 77492), Chromium Oxide Greens (Ci 77288), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891)].

Mint #7

Mint #7 is a muted, dusty coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had good pigmentation in a single layer, but it was moderately powdery to the point where it had some fallout and a tendency to sheer out when applied to bare skin. It was a bit less sheer over a primer but still needed to be layered for full coverage. The eyeshadow wore nicely for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Ingredients

Mica, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin [+/-Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140), Blue 1 Lake (Ci 42090), Iron Oxides(Ci 77499, Ci 77492, Ci 77491), Chromium Oxide Greens (Ci 77288), Red 40 Lake (Ci 16035)].

Mint #8

Mint #8 is a light-medium, green-leaning aqua base with cooler, light blue and copper sparkle. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied somewhat patchy in a single layer, so building it up was a challenge. I had the best luck working with it using a dampened brush, which helped to smooth it out, but I had to be careful to avoid pushing around the product on my lid due to the slip of its texture. It lasted well for eight hours before creasing on me.

Ingredients

Mica, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Magnesium Stearate, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Tin Oxide, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891).

Mint #9

Mint #9 is a brighter, darker blue-leaning aqua with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage at best, but it often sheered out to more medium coverage and didn’t seem to build up well. Despite seeming like it was much deeper than the other matte shades in the palette, the depth got lost when placed near shades #1 and #3.

I also had some issues with the product erasing as I tried to build up or blend out the product. The consistency was moderately powdery with light fallout during application. The color showed signs of fading after seven and a half hours of wear.

Ingredients

Mica, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Silica, Dimethicone, Magnesium Myristate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Ethylhexylglycerin [+/-Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140), Blue 1 Lake (Ci 42090), Iron Oxides(Ci 77499, Ci 77492, Ci 77491), Chromium Oxide Greens (Ci 77288), Red 40 Lake (Ci 16035)].
