Dior Denim (279) 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, blue and teal color story with a pop of gold. It’s not a total surprise that the more colorful palette didn’t perform as well as the slew of more neutral palettes did, but I had held some hope… The formulas were less forgiving and generally less blendable with the first blue shade being the hardest to work with and the center gold shade was sheerer and more prone to fallout due to the added sparkles.

Denim #1

Denim #1 is a medium blue with subtle, cool undertones and a soft, frosted finish. The texture felt smooth to the touch, but it did not apply as smoothly as anticipated–it seemed to break up a bit and looked dry applied where it emphasized my skin texture and did not blend out seamlessly. It had semi-opaque color coverage that stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview

The formula is supposed to have a "creamy and comfortable texture" that is long-wearing and has "intense color" (or "high-pigment"). There are five finishes that can be found within various palettes: matte, satin, shimmer, metallic, highlighter, and glitter, though there aren't specific descriptions by finish, unfortunately.

There were a few shades that seemed more sparkly and were sheerer, more like layering shades, while the other finishes tended to be pigmented. In general, the texture was moderately dense with the matte shades being slightly thinner and a smidgen powdery in the pan compared to the satin, shimmer, and metallic shades.

Aside from those more sparkly shades, the formula was blendable, pigmented, easy to work with, and lasted an average of eight hours on me (without a primer).

Denim #2

Denim #2 is a muted, dark blue-teal with cool undertones and a metallic finish. It had excellent color coverage in a single layer, which adhered well to bare skin with a smooth, even lay down of product. The texture was smooth, soft, and yielding while being a slightly denser formula. The color seemed to fade and lose some of its vibrancy after the initial application, though the remaining color lasted nicely for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Denim #3

Denim #3 is a medium gold with moderate, warm undertones and a lightly sparkling, frosted finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable color payoff that applied fairly well to bare skin, but there was light fallout when I worked with it dry. The texture was soft, lightly powdery but not to the point where it was really problematic. It wore decently for seven and a half hours before showing signs of wear, like fallout.

Denim #4 is a deep teal with neutral-to-cool undertones and a soft, metallic sheen. It had rich pigmentation paired with a smooth, slightly denser consistency that was still easy to pick up with a brush and to diffuse along the edges. The color stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.
