Huda Beauty Sand Haze Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette ($29.00 for 0.20 oz.) is a new palette that includes five matte eyeshadows and four shimmer eyeshadows. The matte eyeshadows were very powdery with a drier, thinner feel, so they applied best after the shimmer eyeshadows, which were thicker and could lift away some of the sheerer mattes if applied over them. The quality was all over the map, but most of the shades had issues with respect to pigmentation, texture, fallout, and longevity.
I only just caught that the Haze Obsessions palettes only contain 0.20 oz. compared to past Obsessions palettes, which have contained 0.45 oz. They seem to have the same physical size with respect to the compacts, so I’m actually not certain how they managed to have such a huge reduction in weight just by looking at it. It’s possible that the shimmer formula is somehow lighter but filling up the same volume of space, or else the actual pans hold less.

Sand Haze #1 is a light copper with strong, warm orange undertones and a metallic finish with faint sparkle. It had good color coverage in a single layer, and it applied decently with a dry brush, though there was some fallout. The texture was slightly drier and felt more firmly-pressed into the pan with some thickness on my lid, so it was more prone to emphasizing skin texture. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me before fading visibly.

Sand Haze #2
Sand Haze #2 is a very light plum with strong, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The eyeshadow had excellent pigmentation with a soft, smooth consistency that wasn’t too dense nor too softly pressed into the pan, so it picked up beautifully with a brush and had great adhesion. It stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

Sand Haze #3 is a muted, medium-dark plum with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had a soft, blendable consistency but was moderately powdery, so there was fallout during application (even when I tried to be careful) and you could see the powder diffuse in the air as it was applied. It had good pigmentation that was buildable to full coverage with a touch more after most of the blending was done of the first layer. The color wore decently for seven and a half hours before showing signs of fading.

Sand Haze #4 has a soft, rosy brown base with flecks of lavender and gold sparkle. The texture was smooth, dense, and on the firmer side, and it was best applied by jabbing and pushing a dry brush against the surface, which helped to dislodge product off of the surface of the pan that could be patted and pressed onto the lid. When I used a dampened brush, it caused the formula to be more slippery and resulted in patchy application. A fingertip could work but seemed to compact the eyeshadow quite a bit, which made the next use more challenging. It lasted for eight hours but had some fallout over time.

It had sheer color payoff with an extremely powdery texture that dropped lots of powder during application below the lid and visibly dusted away as I blended it on my lid. Sand Haze #6 is a light, yellowy peach with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation that did not build up. The texture was very powdery, prone to sheering out, and had a lot of fallout and a tendency to cause ashiness when combined with some of the “deeper” mattes in the palette. This shade wore decently for five hours before fading noticeably.

Sand Haze #9 is a dusty, medium plum with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had rich pigmentation in a single layer, despite having a fairly powdery consistency that was prone to fallout. I could see the powder dissipate into the air as I blended the product out, so I was surprised that there was actual coverage on my lid and nearly opaque at that (and then I could build it back up). It wore decently for seven and a half hours before fading a bit.
