Bobbi Brown Showstopper Luxe Prismatic Lipstick Bobbi Brown Showstopper Luxe Prismatic Lipstick ($37.00 for 0.13 oz.) is a vibrant, medium red with neutral undertones and fine, ruby red pearl woven through a more metallic finish. There was a smattering–read: buried under all the red pigment–of iridescent pearl that lured one in from the promo image but didn’t really exist in person.

On the brand’s website, under “why it’s different,” it says that it “comes coated in shimmer” as a “bonus” (ha, more like a cruel joke!), but under “what it is” (which is the first description), it’s supposed to have a “color-shifting” effect with “multidimensional pearl shimmer.” It doesn’t have any color shift, and the shimmer in it is more tonal, so it didn’t come off as multidimensional either. So, you’ll find that “product” on the rubric is quite down (where other claims can be accounted for). This is why oversprays can be more misleading than they are interesting.

The product itself was opaque in a single layer with a moderately dense, lightly creamy consistency that had good adhesion and was comfortable to apply and to wear. It stayed on nicely for over six hours, left a stain behind, and felt neither drying nor hydrating over time.
