Coneheads and Dramatic Beauty From Tomo Koizumi
To get the hair look from Tomo Koizumi’s spring 2020 show, step one is to “secure a foam cone shape at the top center of your head.” At least, according to Guido Palau, who styled hair for the presentation. All the rest of the steps are mostly hairspray, according to Palau, who works as the Redken global creative director. He and makeup artist Pat McGrath created a beauty look that one would generally expect coming out of Europe, or maybe from outer space — but certainly not out of New York Fashion Week — for the Friday presentation. To create the conehead moment, Palau used a combination of Redken Guts, Pure 32 Hairspray and Redken Shine Flash 02 to get to stay in place. “It’s a highly conceptualized presentation, and I’ve done the hair to match,” Palau said in a statement. McGrath, using her own makeup line, Pat McGrath Labs, created a dramatic, colorful look fit for Instagram. Models’ skin was finished with her own primer, foundation and powder, before Blood Moon 005, a shimmering deep orange from her Mothership VI palette was drawn across models’ lids.
