L’Oréal to Sell Roger & Gallet Brand

PARIS — L’Oréal said Tuesday that it is in exclusive negotiations with the French investment holding concern Impala for the sale of the Roger & Gallet brand. This comes “following a strategic review regarding the best development options” for the French personal-care brand that was born with pharmacy fragrances, L’Oréal said in a statement. Roger & Gallet, which dates back to 1862, last year registered sales of 52 million euros. The largely natural label, whose L’Eau de Cologne Jean Marie Farina was a favorite of Napoleon I’s, has been part of L’Oréal’s brand portfolio since it purchased Yves Saint Laurent Beauté in 2008. Roger & Gallet today counts perfumes, toiletries and skin care in its stable. The brand has been run through L’Oréal’s Active Cosmetics Division. The deal with Impala is expected to be completed this summer, according to L’Oréal.
